origins

Having met playing for a folk rock quartet, the need to rock took was too attractive an option to spurn and Lloyd Grey and Mark Baker decide to start a band. After a few steps forward and countless steps back due to personnel changes, Monolux start in earnest in July 2006.

Before that, Monolux record a three track EP in December 2005.

Following the first gig in August 2006 for Up All Night Promotions at The Miller Of Mansfield (London Bridge), Monolux earn additional bookings in Soho and North London. After four gigs, the band play for Bugbear Promotions at The Dublin Castle and are offered more Camden gigs.

The sound of Monolux has been likened to The Beatles and Radiohead (according to Bugbear Promotions), very flattering. Monolux aren't either artist, but appreciate the association.

Mark Baker takes a break from music in summer 2008 and the band continue as a trio until the winter of 2010 when Lucas Moreira joins the band.

In 2011, Lucas moves on and Monolux are a trio again.

March 2013, Neiloy Mookerjee adds another band to his burgeoning list of bands he has played for. Monolux are four once more.

personnel

Lloyd Grey (formerly of Speak & Play and The Hank Ripleys) Lead Vox and electric guitar:
South East London native. Admirer of Aretha Franklin, Bobby Womack, Dusty Springfield and Elvis Costello. Lloyd thinks that vocals should be heard and understood...

Robin Lawrence (formerly of Shadowbox) Bass and backing vox:
Robin is a rare Londoner… he has a demeanour of positivity. Weaving in and out of the guitars, anchored firmly to Wrigley's rhythmic foundation, serving each song with melodic bass, providing a foundation with drums upon which the Monolux sound is built.

Martin 'Boss' Wrigley (formerly of Jacknife Kid and Real Time Thrill) Drums:
Martin is a veteran of the South East London music scene. He provides the heartbeat to Monolux. He's a machine!!! A study in self-effacement.

Neil Mookherjee (veteran of many South East London) electric guitar and pedals
Neil is a graduate of Goldsmiths who doesn't claim to be best mates with Blur and seems to know how to play most songs. A by-product of self-indulgent student and post graduate days? Ask him.
